Facebook's New Forum App Puts Your Groups Front and Center
| Category: Social Media
Meta quietly launched Forum, a standalone app that puts your Facebook Groups front and center. Here's what it does, why it's different, and whether Northeast Ohio community members should give it a try.
If you are like me, you joined Facebook mostly for the groups. Local news, community updates, neighborhood chatter. And then somewhere along the way, the main feed turned into a mess of ads, suggested posts from strangers, and content you never asked to see.
Meta just released something that might fix that.
It is called Forum, and it launched quietly this week with no big announcement and no press event. Social media consultant Matt Navarra spotted it first in the App Store. That is how low-key this rollout was.
What Forum Actually Does
Forum is basically Facebook, but only the groups part.
When you log in with your existing Facebook account, your groups, your profile, and your activity all carry over. No starting from scratch. The feed only shows you conversations from groups you already belong to, and it will ask you what topics you want to see more of so it can suggest others you might like.
Anything you post on Forum also shows up in the same group on Facebook. It is not a separate network. Think of it as a cleaner front door into the same community you already built.
The AI Features Worth Knowing
There is a built-in AI tab called "Ask." You type a question and it pulls answers from real discussions happening across your groups. Not a web search. Not a chatbot making things up. Actual responses from real people in real communities.
There is also an admin assistant for group managers. If you run a local group, that alone might be worth checking out.
Is It Like Reddit?
That comparison is all over the tech press right now. Honestly, yes and no. The vibe is similar but you are working with your real Facebook identity and the communities you already know. You can use a nickname, but group admins can still see who you really are. That accountability matters in a local news environment.
Should You Download It?
If you are already active in local Facebook groups, this is worth a look. Instead of fighting the algorithm to find the posts you actually care about, Forum puts them right in front of you.
For folks following community pages across Nordonia Hills, Twinsburg, Macedonia, Green, and the rest of Northeast Ohio, that is a big deal. Less noise. More of what matters.
It is still in testing and right now it is iPhone only. But go grab it and see what you think.
